USL Discipline Report: Week 21

TAMPA, Fla. – The following is the USL’s discipline report for Week 21 of the 2016 season:

Eight players and an assistant coach have been suspended and fined an undisclosed amount for their actions this past week.

Five players received their fifth cautions of the season, leading to one-game suspensions for yellow card accumulation. Upcoming suspensions include San Antonio FC‘s Taylor Morgan (out Wednesday against Arizona United SC), Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2‘s Fatawu Safiu (out Sunday against Arizona United SC) and FC Cincinnati‘s Sean Okoli (out Wednesday, Aug. 24 against the Rochester Rhinos). Two players already served their yellow card accumulation suspensions this past weekend: the Harrisburg City Islanders‘ Cardel Benbow (on Sunday against Toronto FC II) and FC Montreal‘s Aron Mkungilwa (on Saturday against the Charleston Battery).

Three players were sent off during in Week 21 and issued one-game suspensions. Upcoming suspensions include Orlando City B teammates Conor Donovan and Kyle McFadden (out Wednesday against the Charlotte Independence). Pittsburgh‘s Chad Barson was sent off during the midweek and served his suspension this past Saturday against Bethlehem Steel FC.

Elsewhere, OKC Energy FC assistant coach Mark Howard was dismissed from last Saturday’s match against the LA Galaxy II and will be suspended for this Saturday’s road match against Tulsa Roughnecks FC.

A total of 43 players have been issued four yellow cards this season and are one away from being fined and suspended for accumulation (breakdown by team):

  • Charleston Battery: Forrest Lasso and Romario Williams
  • Charlotte Independence: Enzo Martinez and Patrick Slogic
  • Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC: Taeseong Kim and Marty Maybin
  • FC Cincinnati: Pat McMahon
  • FC Montreal: Kyle Fisher and Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare
  • Harrisburg City Islanders: Bobby Warshaw
  • LA Galaxy II: Alejandro Covarrubias and Oscar Sorto
  • Louisville City FC: George Davis IV, Paolo DelPiccolo and Ben Newnam
  • New York Red Bulls II: Dan Metzger and Konrad Plewa
  • OKC Energy FC: Michael Byskov and Michael Thomas
  • Orlando City B: Mikey Ambrose
  • Pittsburgh Riverhounds: Danny Earls
  • Real Monarchs SLC: Colin Rolfe
  • Richmond Kickers: Samuel Asante, Michael Callahan and Fred Owusu Sekyere
  • Rio Grande Valley FC: Charlie Ward
  • Saint Louis FC: Chad Bond, AJ Cochran and Sam Fink
  • San Antonio FC: Rafael Castillo, Danny Garcia, Stephen McCarthy and Miguel Salazar
  • Seattle Sounders FC 2: Jordan Schweitzer and Nouhou Tolo
  • Swope Park Rangers: Ualefi Rodrigues dos Reis
  • Toronto FC II: Raheem Edwards and Mitchell Taintor
  • Tulsa Roughnecks FC: Brady Ballew

  1. The USL really needs to look at some of these so-called yellows these so-called officials are giving out. There are plenty of them which should be rescinded after review.

    • I know some (a lot) of the officiating leaves much to be desired, but I don’t believe that the current USL practice is to rescind cautions or ejections.
